Disease reticulum cell sarcoma
Strain BALB/cAnN
Applications This cell line is a suitable transfection host.
Storage Conditions liquid nitrogen vapor phase
Karyotype diploid; modal number = 37; range = 33 to 38 RefKim KJ, et al. Establishment and characterization of BALB/c lymphoma lines with B cell properties. J. Immunol. 122: 549-554, 1979. PubMed: 310843
Derivation The A20 cell line is a BALB/c B cell lymphoma line derived from a spontaneous reticulum cell neoplasm found in an old BALB/cAnN mouse.
Antigen Expression Antigen expression: I-A+ RefKim KJ, et al. Establishment and characterization of BALB/c lymphoma lines with B cell properties. J. Immunol. 122: 549-554, 1979. PubMed: 310843
Receptor Expression Fc
Genes Expressed immunoglobulin (surface, sIg+),I-A+
Cellular Products immunoglobulin (surface, sIg+)
Tumorigenic Yes
Effects Yes
Comments The cells express little surface immunoglobulin when grown in Click's medium; however, they express large amounts when grown in RPMI 1640 medium. The cells can present both alloantigens and protein antigens. Tested and found negative for ectromelia virus (mousepox).
Complete Growth Medium The base medium for this cell line is ATCC-formulated RPMI-1640 Medium, Catalog No. 30-2001. To make the complete growth medium, add the following components to the base medium:
  • fetal bovine serum to a final concentration of 10%
  • 0.05 mM 2-mercaptoethanol
Subculturing Cultures can be maintained by addition or replacement of fresh medium. Start cultures at 2 x 105 cells/mL and maintain between 1 x 105 and 1 x 106 cells/mL.

Medium Renewal: Every 2 to 3 days

Cryopreservation culture medium 95%; DMSO, 5%
Culture Conditions Temperature: 37°C
Isotype IgG
Population Doubling Time 18 hrs
