The Standard for the Uniform Scheduling of Medicines and Poisons (SUSMP) www.legislation.gov.au/F2025L01181/latest/text classifies drugs and poisons into different Schedules. These schedules determine the level of regulatory control over the availability of medicines or chemical required to protect public health and safety.
The State Requirements for Scheduled Poisons will determine the customer’s requirements for purchasing scheduled poisons from IVT. A customer may require a Poisons Licence/Permit or may need to provide an EUD (End User Declaration) for substances listed within the SUSMP. Please consult your local State or Territory legislation regarding requirements and responsibilities for use of scheduled poisons.

You must have a current valid permit or State authorisation/approval that allows you and your organisation to use a scheduled poison (e.g., Schedule 4, Schedule 8 etc.) and should be provided along with your Purchase Order to avoid delays.
In addition, some Drugs and Poisons are classified as controlled substances www.odc.gov.au/controlled-substances/list and will require an import permit approved by the Office of Drug Control (or NCS).
The application permit to import a control substance can take around 2 months to arrive.
Items cannot be purchased until the import permit arrives to IVT.
You will need to provide an End user Declaration (EUD) on your organisation’s letterhead that confirms the end-user, substance and quantity you are using, and reason for use, to allow In Vitro Technologies to apply for a prohibited import permit.
Download the EUD template via the link below if ordering a Prohibited Import
UK Controlled Substances will require customers supply an EUU (End User Undertaking) for the vendor to apply to the UK government for an export permit. If that item is also a prohibited import, an import permit will be required. Lead time for UK Controlled Substances can vary, please contact the Life Science Support Team via the request form.
Dual use toxins will require the vendor to apply to the UK government for an export permit. An estimated permit lead time for a Dual Use Toxin is around 2-3 weeks.
Items that are classified as hazardous chemicals or dangerous goods require a Safety Data Sheet (SDS).
It is a legal requirement under Safework Australia for Suppliers to have a copy of a current SDS for each item imported and supplied. SDS are reviewed and revised at least every 5 years. If expired, an SDS will be requested.
Customer orders cannot be imported or supplied until a valid SDS is received.
Items that are classified as non-hazardous do not require an SDS.
